Confirmation Preview - November 2nd

Parents & youth together, please read and reflect on the questions below before coming to class!

Share: What does Jesus have to say about love? A LOT! We're not taking about mushy romantic love here, but about the kind of unconditional love that God shows to us in Jesus Christ, and the SAME kind of love Jesus specifically commands us to show to people. In preparation for this week's confirmation lesson, think of one question you may have about the love Jesus calls us to share with other people. If you're completely stumped and can't think of a question, ask your parents to help.

Read: John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life."  This is probably the most well-known verse in the Bible.  What does it teach us about why and how much God loves us (AKA the whole world)?

Pray: (Use this or another prayer of your choice) “God of love, we praise you and thank you for choosing to love us and the whole world. We are grateful for the lengths you went to in your son, Jesus, to show us just how great your amazing, unconditional love is for us. Change us by your love so that we can grow to love others the way you love us. In Jesus Christ we pray, Amen."

Remember:  bring your Bible with you to confirmation tomorrow night! :)

Youth Blasts are fun and energy-filled retreats, staffed by our summer counselors, where youth have the opportunity to go on hikes, play games, make crafts, trek deeper into faith with their small groups, and enjoy connecting and engaging with one another in a community centered around learning and growing as Christian leaders who will change the world.

Grades 3-6, November 4th 7:00PM - November 5th 4:00PM Closing Worship

Grades 6-8, November 11th 7:00PM - November 12th 4:00PM Closing Worship

Newborn Kit Workday: November 23rd, 10:00 am - Noon: Due to Thanksgiving break, there's no school on this day, so come to church instead and help make items for Newborn Kits with the Zion quilters.  These kits will be sent overseas to families with new babies in areas that lack adequate infant care. No sewing experience required!  Bring your own sewing machine if you have one. Sign up on the Youth Bulletin Board. Contact Pastor Kim if you need a ride.

Fall Festival – Saturday, November 5th

Shift 1: 10:45 am – 12:30 pm: FULL
Shift 2: 12:15-2:00 pm: 6 MORE people needed

Responsibilities include: serving beverages, clearing tables, resetting tables for additional guests, clean-up.

Sign up on the youth bulletin board or email Turi Fryer (tbf@charter.net ) if interested.

Christmas Tree Sales: The Stewartville Morning Lions sell Christmas trees every year in the Fareway parking lot as a fundraiser, and welcome additional help taking shifts to sell Christmas trees. You can sign up for a shift here.  Two recommendations:

  • If you'd like to sign your child up for a shift, I recommend that a parent signs up for a slot with them, unless you personally know one of the Lions' members who are already signed up for that shift.
  • If all slots for a shift are open, I recommend that you do not fill up an entire slot, in order to leave a space for at least 1 Lion to be scheduled.  This will help make sure there is a seasoned expert with you to help out.
If you have a question about Christmas Tree sales, please contact Matt Huggenvik at squiggy23@hotmail.com

Confirmation Requirements: Many of you have already started taking sermon notes and completing service hours - great job! Remember, for each year of confirmation, you need to complete:
  • 12 sermon notes
  • 10 church-related service hours
  • 10 community service hours
To get credit for your service hours, you need to fill out a green half-sheet, describing how you served, and turn it in by the youth bulletin board (the same place you turn in your sermon notes).

Not sure what "counts" for service hours? Here are a few options, and links to sign up:
  • Acolyte
  • Worship Computer Operator
  • Saturday Noon Meals (parents can participate, too!)
  • Nursery Helper: sign up for a date to help on the Youth Bulletin board
  • Skit Crew: sign up on the Youth Bulletin board
  • Sunday School Helper: Contact Wendy Weber
  • Look for more service opportunities to come!
If you have any questions or concerns about the opportunities listed above, please don't hesitate to reach out.
